Safe
and Sound Protection of Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults
Local
voluntary arts groups open up opportunities for people of all ages and
experiences to participate in creative activities. It is important for
all groups to act responsibly and take care of their members and supporters.
Having a good Protection Policy in place creates a safe environment for
all members of the group, where children, young people and vulnerable
adults feel they are listened to. It also means that other members of
the group know what to do should a situation arise where abuse is suspected
or disclosed.
However,
it is no use 'borrowing' a Protection Policy which is not useful and relevant
for your own groups' needs. The policy needs to be thought through and
developed by your group so that it is understood and adopted by all members.
Sometimes it is difficult to know where to start but there are some key
areas
that you will need to consider.
DIVA
has copies of some useful publications for groups requiring further advice,
information and training about protection issues:
· Wakefield Area Child Protection Committee have published the following
booklet - Working Together to Safeguard Children Child Protection Procedures
for Voluntary Organisations
Keeping
Arts Safe: Protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults
involved in arts activities is published by Arts Council England. Available
in Braille, large print, on audiotape and in electronic version from:
